Stephen Nolan failed to return to his live radio show this morning after the 10am news after hearing about a family emergency.

This morning's episode of the Stephen Nolan Show was forced off air early as the presenter did not return after the 10 o'clock news bulletin.

The Stephen Nolan Show was cut short by thirty minutes following a discussion on the war in the Middle East.

But the reason for his quick exit was explained on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter).

He said he had received a call while on air to tell him his beloved mother, Audrey, had taken ill.

Posting on the social media platform, the Shankill-born presenter said: "I got a phone call during the show to say my mum took ill this morning after falling overnight.

"I’m just letting you all know that’s why I left early . Mum will always come first."
