Is the M23 closed? Crash causes 'severe disruption' for drivers near M25 with road to be closed for 'several hours'
Drivers are facing lengthy delays and diversions after an early-morning crash on a busy motorway caused “severe disruption”.
A collision on the M23/A23 northbound between J8 (M25) and A237 (Coulsdon) has caused the road to be closed to vehicles, with the closure expected to last “several hours”. Traffic is being diverted locally at the scene.
All lanes of the carriageway are closed, with emergency services in attendance. The entry slip road onto the M23 northbound at junction 8 from the M25 has also been closed.

National Highways said in a travel update: “The M23 in Surrey is closed northbound between J8 (M25) and the A237 (Coulsdon) following a road traffic collision.
Following this collision at around 06:45 this morning the M23/A23 northbound has been closed to allow Surrey Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service to work at scene.
“National Highways have been advised that police collision investigations will be required following this collision, this will require the road to remain closed for several hours with no re-opening time currently available.”
It comes after drivers on the M6 were subjected to lengthy delays yesterday (August 16) following a multi-vehicle collision on the busy West Midlands motorway.
