Police launch investigation after serious collision on the A23 at Albourne in West Sussex, is it still shut?

A serious collision involving multiple vehicles has taken place on the A23 at Albourne in West Sussex.

Police are launching an investigation after a serious collision took place on April 16 at around 10:15pm on the northbound carriageway on the A23 at Albourne in West Sussex. The collision involved two cars and a lorry.

Sussex Police released a statement which read: “Three occupants from a blue Ford Fiesta were taken to hospital with serious injuries, where they remain. This included the driver, a 17-year-old boy from East Grinstead, and two 19-year-old men from East Grinstead and from Copthorne who were passengers.

“The driver of a Ford Puma, a 46-year-old woman from Horsham, also sustained injuries, while the driver of a lorry, a 57-year-old man from Swindon, was not injured.

“Road closures remain in place on the northbound carriageway from Pyecombe, and diversions are in place.

“Motorists are advised to find alternative routes, and further information will be provided in due course.

“Witnesses or anyone with information about the collision, including with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage is asked to report it to Sussex Police online, quoting Operation Malling.”

National Highways has confirmed on their website that they have “mobilised crews to support Sussex Police by assisting with traffic management and protecting the closure points. Strategic driver information signs are set across the wider network to help drivers plan their journeys and reduce disruption on surrounding roads.

“There are currently no official diversion routes in place, and drivers are being directed via local roads.”

As police have confirmed that investigative work is set to continue throughout daylight hours, this will result in the A23 northbound being closed throughout the entire morning and the peak travel period. At the earliest, it will be reopened later today.

National Highways has advised drivers to allow extra time for journeys and to follow local diversion routes where available.
