Man dies after falling from 200ft cliff at coastal beauty spot on hottest day of the year

A man has died after falling off a cliff at a coastal beauty spot in Dorset on the hottest day of the year.

The tourist, who was from the Bedfordshire area and was in his 40s, had climbed part-way up the 200ft tall Stair Hole at Lulworth Cove, Dorset, when he slipped and fell.

An air ambulance, coastguards, a lifeboat crew and police attended the scene at 6.30pm on Sunday (18 July), where the man received treatment from paramedics, but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not known how far he fell.

A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said that crews were sent to the scene, including a coastguard helicopter.

Witnesses described how the man's family was consoled by police officers and coastguard members.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police received a report at around 6.30pm on Sunday that a man had fallen off rocks at Stair Hole near to Lulworth Cove in the Purbeck area.

"Officers attended the incident together with other emergency services. Very sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His family has been informed and the coroner has been notified. There were no suspicious circumstances."

There have been a number of incidents to have taken place at beauty spots in Dorset this past year.

Mother-of-five Tahira Jabeen, who was in her 40s, died after falling from a cliff at Durdle Moor, near Lulworth, last month.
