A woman’s nipple has dropped off after undergoing breast surgery in Turkey

A bride-to-be's 'impulsive' decision to undergo breast surgery in Turkey has left her with a harrowing experience, as she described her nipple as looking like it had been “bitten by a shark” after it dropped off.

Madison Goodwin, a model and social media influencer, decided to have the surgery in Istanbul after seeing the positive results of a friend who had visited the same clinic. She spent £4,000 on breast implants and a lift, which included nipple reconstruction, in hopes of making her "big, saggy" breasts perkier.

The 19-year-old noticed her right nipple was bright purple the day after surgery and overheard a doctor saying, "it was done wrong but I corrected it." Despite this, she was reassured that she would heal in a few days. However, days later, Madison was horrified to find some of the skin had turned black, and her nipple was "hanging on by a thread" before it eventually fell off.

Madison has since been referred to a hospital wound specialist and is waiting for the remaining necrotic tissue to heal or drop off before undergoing a skin graft at a UK hospital. She also acknowledged that her body might have rejected the reconstruction but is now urging women to have such surgeries in the UK, where help is more readily available if things go wrong.

Madison, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, explained her initial motivation: "I wanted to feel I could wear a top, maybe a bit boobier, and they just sit there. I wouldn't have to wear a bra or worry about them slipping out. I wanted them to just sit nicely in every item I could wear and give myself a bit of confidence."

After experiencing a stillbirth in January, Madison felt unhappy with her breasts' appearance and decided to undergo the surgery. She said: "My boobs felt very saggy, and my nipples were really big; they never went back to normal. I'm only small and had these big, saggy boobs. I just wanted them quite perky and a bit rounder and bigger.”

She chose the clinic in Turkey because the cost was significantly lower than in London, where she was quoted £9,000. Without doing much research, Madison, who is also saving for a house, booked the surgery on impulse.

Following the two-hour surgery on April 30, Madison returned to her hotel. Despite the doctor admitting that there was a mistake during the procedure, she was assured of a quick recovery and flew home, regularly sending pictures to her surgeon. However, 12 days after the surgery, her nipple began peeling off.

Madison went to Southend University Hospital and was later referred to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. She said: "I was changing the bandages daily because they were getting gunkier and (there was) more blood. When I took the bandage off, I could see my nipple was starting to peel off.”

Eventually, the nipple came off entirely, leaving her with an open wound. She said: "I went to the hospital and explained the situation. The doctor took the bandages off really carefully, you could see it was still hanging on by a thread but it didn't come off fully.

"At that point my nipple had become necrotic and was black in certain places. They sent me to another hospital, when they took the bandages off the nipple came off, it was just a big bit of skin.

"I'm assuming where my nipple had come off it opened my stitches below my breast so then I had an open wound of stitches. It genuinely looked like a shark bite, I felt horrible. They kept talking that I'd have to get a skin graft or a nipple tattoo."

Currently, Madison is awaiting further treatment and is warning others about the risks of having such surgeries abroad. She said: "Any girl who wants anything to do with their nipples done, just get it in England because it's so risky. At least if something goes wrong, they're so on the ball to help you.”

With her wedding planned for December, Madison hopes her wounds will heal in time for her off-the-shoulder dress. "They've said it could take six months to heal," she said, stressing on the importance of receiving proper medical care in case of complications.
