Multiple lorries catch fire overnight as fire crews battle blaze in Bristol

Fire crews are working at the scene of a huge blaze after multiple lorries in an industrial state caught fire.

Avon Fire & Rescue said that crews from multiple areas were working on containing the fire in the Thornbury industrial estate in Bristol. The lorries caught fire in the early hours of Thursday morning (September 5).

In a statement, the fire service said that no one had been hurt, but advised nearby residents to close all windows and doors due to the fumes. Avon Fire & Rescue Service said: “Our fire control operators have received multiple calls surrounding a fire on Short Way Thornbury, please be rest assured we have multiple crews responding to this. Please keep your windows closed and avoid the area if possible.

“Crews from Avonmouth, Thornbury, Patchway, Southmead, Temple, Pill, Nailsea, Chew Magna, Kingswood, Yate and Portishead are currently in attendance. On arrival at the scene, firefighters found multiple HGV lorries well alight and are working to extinguish the blaze and stop the fire spreading further.

“A full evacuation has taken place, and all persons have been accounted for. There are fortunately no casualties.” It added that crews have almost fully put the fire out but some currently still working at the site to eliminate any “hotspots”.
