From sexual offences to attempted murder, these doctors betrayed their position of trust and were ultimately imprisoned for committing heinous crimes.
One of the most shocking cases involves former family doctor, Dr Stephen Cox who was jailed after being convicted of 12 indecent assaults against his patients in Bracknell, on the pretext of conducting routine medical examinations.
Meanwhile, Thomas Kwan, a former respected GP in Sunderland, was found guilty of attempted murder after injecting a pesticide under the guise of giving a Covid booster jab into his mum’s partner over an inheritance, leaving him with life-changing injuries.
Below are the doctors who were put behind bars so far this year.

5. Dr Francis Bailey
Dr Francis Bailey, a 63-year-old GP from Peterborough, has been sentenced to two years and two months in prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with a vulnerable patient. Bailey pursued the relationship shortly after the woman was discharged from a psychiatric unit in December 2021, initially providing his personal number and advising her through a crisis. Their relationship continued for five months, during which Bailey prescribed her medications, including antidepressants. The inappropriate relationship came to light in May 2022 when a friend of Bailey discovered incriminating messages on an old phone he had given them. Despite his initial claim that the patient had blackmailed him, police were informed, leading to his arrest in June 2022. Bailey pleaded guilty to three counts of a care worker engaging in sexual activity with a mentally disordered female and was also issued a 10-year restraining order against the patient.
