The family of a 16-year-old girl killed in a road crash have paid tribute to their “little firecracker”.

Toya Jefferies from Royal Wootton Bassett was the passenger of a vehicle that crashed on an unnamed rural road in north Wiltshire.

Toya's family said: "Toya was the most beautiful, amazing daughter. She was tragically taken from us and her family August 29. The only way to describe Toya is a little firecracker who touched everyone’s hearts. She was loved by everyone she met and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. With the tragic circumstances we can see how much Toya was loved and how she has brought our community together."

Speaking via Wiltshire Police, the family asked for privacy at “this devastating time”.

The accident happened on a lane between Bushton and Hilmarton. Police previously said that on August 29, at about 9.45pm, they were called to a single-vehicle collision involving a Renault Clio. They said last week that the driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and was taken into custody, and have today confirmed that he has been released under investigation. A 17-year-old was also arrested and released under investigation, although police have not confirmed the grounds on which they were arrested.
