Thursday (12 August) is set to see early drizzly rain for parts of England fading, with it being warmest and sunniest towards the east and southeast. Northwestern UK will see increasing numbers of heavy, blustery showers and strengthening winds.

The UK Met Office outlook for Friday (13 August) to Sunday (15 August) said: “Northern areas will be showery with a brisk breeze, whereas southern areas will mostly be fine and settled. Through Saturday cloud, rain and drizzle will likely arrive across the southwest.”

The Met Office forecast 15-24 August then predicts that high pressure may become more dominant, with many areas seeing more settled conditions.

However, changeable conditions remain possible across parts of the north, and the Met Office said “spells of heavy showers or thunderstorms can't be ruled out across parts of the south at times”.

Will there be a heatwave in August?

Looking ahead to the end of August into the beginning of September, confidence is currently very low through this period.

There are signs that the UK will continue to be under the influence of high pressure with settled weather more likely in the south, but some spells of heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible at times.

The north of the UK will probably remain changeable and often unsettled, with temperatures likely to be overall near or slightly above average, according to the Met Office.
