Yate’s new care home welcomes its first resident

The team at a brand-new care home in Yate has welcomed its first residents after opening its doors earlier this month.

One of the first residents to call Care UK’s Ladden View on Fletcher Road her new home is 98-year-old Ruby Harris.

Ruby spent her first day at the home exploring the grounds and getting to know the team, which included playing a game of dominoes and discussing Ruby’s favourite destinations around the world, including Coombe Down in Bath where Ruby was born. Ruby has always enjoyed traveling, and spent 20 years living in Florida, America where she lived in a house on the beach.

Ruby also received a visit from the home’s head chef who was keen to find out her favourite meals, which include a Sunday lunch with the whole family together.

The new purpose-built care home in Yate will eventually provide full-time residential and specialist dementia care for up to 75 residents.

Ladden View is divided into four suites, each comprising a number of bedrooms and a lounge for residents. This encourages the creation of tight-knit communities within the home and provides space for group activities.

Commenting on life at Ladden View, Ruby said: “My favourite part of the day is watching out the window, especially when people give me a wave as they walk past.

“I’m mostly looking forward to having live entertainment and getting to know more residents.”

Ladden View has also installed a ‘Wishing Tree’, an initiative launched by Care UK which allows residents to suggest ideas for new hobbies they’d like to try, places they’d like to visit or even activities linked to past careers. The initiative encourages residents to live fulfilling lives – from skiing to a fish and chip supper, no wish is too big or small.

Sarah Daly, home manager at Ladden View, said: “We are thrilled to have opened our doors to the first residents here at Ladden View. Welcoming Ruby has been an absolute joy and we’ve loved spending time getting to know her and her life story.

“Seeing residents start to move into Ladden View is a pleasure. We are extremely pleased with the design of the home, and every single detail has been taken into account to produce a high-quality, luxurious setting that will allow residents to live active and fulfilling lives. Ladden View has been beautifully furnished to create the ideal environment for older loved ones to live comfortably.
