Les McKeown: Bay City Rollers singer has died aged 65

Bay City Rollers singer Les McKeown has died suddenly at the age of 65, his family has announced.

The singer’s family posted a statement on Twitter on Thursday (22 April) to announce the death of the rock and roll star, who died at his home on Tuesday (20 April).

The message read: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband and father Leslie Richard McKeown. Leslie died suddenly at home on Tuesday 20 April 2021.

"We are currently making arrangements for his funeral and ask for privacy after the shock of our profound loss. Thank you. Keiko and Jubei McKeown."

Bay City Rollers first came to fame in 1973 with the release of their single Remember, before releasing a multitude of hits including All of Me Loves All of You, and I Only Want to Be With You.

Fans of the singer posted tributes underneath the statement, expressing the impact McKeown’s music had on their lives.

One Twitter user said: “Gutted. RIP Les. You were a massive part of my youth. Thank you for the music and the memories,” while another commented: “Devastatingly sad he will leave a huge void in his family and all his fans throughout the world ..God bless.”

Another fan commented: “So sad to read this. Went to all the gigs here. The voice of the rollers will live forever in all our hearts. RIP Les,” while another said: “There goes another piece of my childhood heart. I just can’t wrap my head around this.”
