What is Carrie Johnson doing after life at No 10 and where does she live with Boris?

The other half of a huge personality in politics would often fade into the background, this is not the case for Carrie Johnson.

Boris Johnson's third wife, who moved into similar political circles as her future husband when she was a 21-year-old press officer for the Conservative Party, has spoken out in the last 24 hours (2 March 2023) to back the campaign of the family of a victim of murder.

Carrie is known to lend her voice to various causes, including violence against women and animal rights.

On this occasion, Carrie has spoken of her fear about the release of the serial rapist John Worboys as she made a personal plea to the justice secretary to keep Robert Brown, the killer of Joanna Simpson, behind bars.

Carrie, one of Worboys' victims, said she understood Joanna's loved ones’ feeling of being "like sitting ducks", ahead of Brown’s proposed release in November after serving half of a 24-year sentence.

Boris showed his support for his wife and her desire to speak out on this subject as he attended the event in London by her side. Carrie spoke alongside the former justice secretary Robert Buckland, the former home secretary Priti Patel and the shadow minister for domestic violence, Jess Phillips.

Carrie had been approached by Joanna Simpson's family at an event last year. She said: "I remember [them] describing themselves as feeling like sitting ducks, powerless to do anything. And I knew that feeling from my own experience.

"When I found out that taxi cab rapist John Worboys was due to be released much earlier than we thought with no explanation as to why, I remember feeling really scared."

The capabilities of Carrie are varied. The woman is a strong force to be reckoned with, putting aside her union with the indomitable and even teflon-like spirit of Boris.

What has Carrie been doing with her time post the high pressure life and wallpapering bonanza of No.10 Downing Street?

She has two young children with Boris, her first foray into motherhood and believed to be Boris' seventh and eighth - although he has never confirmed the total number of children he has fathered.

What is known is that the prime minister and his second wife, Marina Wheeler, who separated in 2018, have four children together: Lara Lettice, 27, Milo Arthur, 25, Cassia Peaches, 23, and Theodore Apollo, 21. He has also allegedly fathered two children from an extramarital affair during his second marriage.

Clearly, Carrie will be busy with her own children, as well as perhaps spending time with step-children, and ensuring Boris is adjusting to life as a mere MP after the dizzying three years he was in power.

A keen conservationist, she worked in communications for the marine conservation group Oceana, before joining the Aspinall Foundation, which has a board of trustees including Ben Goldsmith, the brother of Zac Goldsmith.

Since Johnson took the job, the Aspinall Foundation has faced significant scrutiny of its work, and is being investigated by the Charity Commission over its finances, a factor which might put-off some future employers for Carrie.

Carrie and Boris are believed to be have bought a £4m nine-bedroom, Grade II-listed home in Oxfordshire. The house has "period features", estate agents said, as well as "ornate cornicing" and "open fireplaces". There is also a walled garden, tennis court, outside storage and a double garage. The couple have reportedly made an offer which has been accepted, says the Guardian on 17 February 2023.

The couple had also been reportedly looking at other homes, also in the £4m prince range in Fulham, London.

Carrie is believed to currently live with Boris between two residences: a London townhouse and a country property in the Cotswolds, which is provided by the Conservative donor Lord Bamford and his wife at a cost of £13,500 a month. The Bamfords are friends of Boris and are strong Brexit supporters.

Money won't be an issue for Carrie. Her husband, Boris, free from the one job shackle of the role of prime minister, has been receiving huge sums of money for speeches, hospitality and donations worth more than £5m over the last six months, as well as an advance on his upcoming memoir.
