In light of Berlusconi’s passing, Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto shared a Tweet in Italian that translates to: “A big, huge pain. He leaves a huge void because he was great. An era is over, an era is closing. I loved him very much. Goodbye Silvio.”

Berlusconi was prime minister for nine years in total, making him the longest serving post-war PM of Italy, first being elected in 1994 and ending his latest tenure in 2011.

In his personal life, Berlusconi was reportedly married twice to Veronica Lario (1990-2010) and Cala Dall’Oglio (1965-1985) before celebrating a ‘symbolic wedding’ most recently to MP Marta Fascina that cost 400,000 euros, after he broke up with long-term girlfriend Francesca Pascale in 2020.

Berlusconi is succeeded by his five children Marina, Pier Silvio, Barbara, Eleonora and Luigi.
