The futuristic new Dyson CameraJet combines sonic brushing with precision flossing and an AI-powered camera

Dyson has launched its first ever toothbrush on September 1 and it could completely change the way we think about brushing our teeth. The new CameraJet electric toothbrush with flosser £419.99 and combines a sonic toothbrush with something I’ve never seen built into a toothbrush before: a camera designed to detect the gaps between your teeth.

It comes in two colour options the Ceramic Ultra Blue (sold out) or the Ceramic Pink. Dyson describes it as the first toothbrush with a camera to target and precision-floss gaps, using its Gap Optical Targeting technology to identify interdental spaces while you brush. And yes, it sounds like something from the future.

The CameraJet is a 100,000-pixel macro lens camera which analyses 28 images every second. According to the brand the AI machine-learning algorithm identifies the gaps between your teeth, while a specially designed target lens widens the camera's field of view to improve gap detection.

There's also a stroboscopic light to illuminate the area, helping the camera see more clearly. The idea is that instead of simply brushing and hoping you've reached every area, the toothbrush can identify where attention is needed.

The camera is only part of what makes the Dyson CameraJet different. It also has a precision-flossing system, using a conical jet to direct liquid between the teeth. The jet is designed to be gentle on gums and enamel, too. You can choose to brush and floss at the same time, or use the toothbrush in brush-only or floss-only mode.

If the £419.99 Dyson CameraJet is a little too much for your toothbrush budget, there are plenty of more affordable high-tech alternatives worth considering. The Oral-B iO6 Pink Sand Electric Toothbrush - Sensitive Edition £300 and offers five cleaning modes, including Sensitive, Super Sensitive and Whitening, alongside a pressure sensor and long-lasting lithium-ion battery.

For a much affordable option, the Oral-B iO3 Matt Black Electric Toothbrush & Travel Case was £160 now £65 and features three cleaning modes, a pressure sensor and a two-minute timer. Meanwhile, the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 9000 Electric Toothbrush £149.99 and comes with advanced sonic technology, a premium USB charging travel case and a C3 Premium Plaque Control brush head.
