I'd wanted Lush's Bath Bot ever since it launched in 2023, but the £150 price tag always made me hesitate. As someone who loves a long soak with a Lush bath bomb, I finally decided to treat myself.

Ever since Lush launched the Bath Bot in late 2023, I've wanted one. Every time I saw it online or in store, I thought how incredible it looked, but the £150 price tag always stopped me from making the purchase.

Eventually, I decided to treat myself. Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm part-mermaid. I usually have at least one two-hour-long bath every week, although admittedly there have been fewer recently thanks to the relentless heatwaves. But, I know when the temperature cools again I’ll be running multiple baths again so the Bath Bot will get lots of use.

Bath time is my opportunity to properly switch off, unwind and reset after a busy week, so I convinced myself that if I was ever going to spend £150 on a gadget, the Lush Bath Bot was probably the one to choose.

The fact it isn't simply a bath speaker also appealed. It pairs with the Lush app to synchronise bespoke music and lighting with selected Lush bath bombs, while also working as a standard Bluetooth speaker in and out of the bath. That versatility made the hefty price tag feel a little easier to justify.

But was it actually worth it? Keep reading to find out my thoughts.

What I like about the Lush Bath Bot

The first thing that struck mewhen I took it out of the box was the quality. For such a compact device, it feels incredibly well made and premium. It has the reassuring feel you'd expect from something costing £150.

The sound quality is absolutely outstanding too. I honestly wasn't expecting such rich, clear audio from a speaker that's small enough to float alongside me in the bath, and is actually in the water, but it's seriously impressive. Whether I was listening to the bespoke Lush soundtracks or streaming my own playlists through Bluetooth from my phone, everything sounded fantastic.

The feature that really sets the Bath Bot apart is, of course, its ability to synchronise with selected Lush bath bombs through the Bathe section of the Lush app. Watching the lights change colour in time with the music while the bath bomb fizzes away creates a memerising immersive experience that feels unlike anything else I've tried.

Unlike most waterproof speakers, the Lush Bath Bot is designed to float in the bath, so you can enjoy music and lighting without worrying about water damage.placeholder image

It's difficult to describe until you've experienced it, but everything comes together beautifully. The light, sound, fragrance and warm water combine to create something that feels more like a luxury spa treatment than simply having a bath at home.

It feels incredibly calming, almost hypnotic at times, and has completely elevated my weekly self-care routine. Plus, if you already love Lush bath bombs, like me, this simply gives you another excuse to indulge in them.

One feature I particularly appreciate is that the Bath Bot is actually designed to sit in the bath water itself. Most waterproof Bluetooth speakers are splashproof or designed to sit nearby rather than being fully immersed, so there's always a small part of you worrying about accidentally dropping them into the water. With the Bath Bot, that's exactly what it's been designed for, so there's none of that concern.

The Lush app is also very easy to use. Pairing the speaker took only a few minutes and selecting the bespoke light and sound experiences for different bath bombs is straightforward. On the occasions when I simply wanted to listen to my own music instead, connecting through Bluetooth was equally quick and reliable.

The fact it doubles as a normal Bluetooth speaker also helps justify the price. I don't only use it in the bath. I've also used it around the house while getting ready, reading and relaxing, so it doesn't feel like a gadget that's only useful for a couple of hours a week.

Most importantly, it's unlike anything else I've ever bought. There simply isn't another product quite like it on the market, and that uniqueness makes it feel even more special.

What I don't like about the Lush Bath Bot

There really isn't much to criticise about the Bath Bot, but there are a couple of things worth knowing before spending £150.

The biggest one is that not every piece of music paired with each bath bomb suited my personal taste. That's hardly surprising because music is incredibly subjective, but it is something to note.

Thankfully, it hasn't been an issue. I've quickly learnt which of the built-in soundtracks I enjoy and which I don't. If I don't fancy one of the official tracks, I simply switch over to my own Bluetooth playlist, which is usually relaxing spa or aromatherapy music. The lighting still looks fantastic, so it certainly doesn't spoil the experience.

The other thing to be aware of is that you'll really want to download the Lush app if you're buying this product and want to use it to its full effect - and at its price point you definitely will.

Technically, the Bath Bot will work as a standalone Bluetooth speaker without it, and it still displays a pleasant ambient colour cycle. However, you won't be able to access the bespoke bath bomb experiences, choose specific mood settings such as Sleep, Awake, Meditation or Rave, or customise the lighting effects without using the app.

For me, that's absolutely fine because the app is simple to use. However, if you're someone who prefers gadgets that work entirely independently of an app, it's something worth considering before buying.

Another small disappointment is the colour choice. At the moment, the Bath Bot is only available in white or black. Considering how colourful, fun and creative Lush's bath bomb range is, I can't help wishing the brand would introduce a few pastel shades too.

Soft pink, lavender or pale blue would feel much more in keeping with Lush's aesthetic and, for me, would add even more to the relaxing, spa-like atmosphere. It's by no means a deal-breaker, but I'd love to see more colour options in the future.

Plus, there isn’t a bespoke colour and sound setting for every single bath bomb, but again I guess that is to be expected when Lush change what bath bombs they offer on a relatively frequent basis and they often have special collaborations and so on. You still can’t help but feel a little disappointed though when you realise there is no tailored setting for bath bomb you’ve just bought - but the Bath Bot will still always display colour and play sound.

My Verdict

The biggest question surrounding the Bath Bot isn't whether it's good. It's whether it's worth £150. For me, the answer is yes.

If you're someone who loves baths, already enjoys using Lush bath bombs and sees bath time as an important part of your self-care routine, this takes the whole experience to another level. The combination of immersive sound, beautiful lighting and relaxing fragrances creates something that feels luxurious every single time I use it.

The fact it also works as a high-quality Bluetooth speaker away from the bath makes the price much easier to justify, as it isn't simply a single-purpose gadget gathering dust between bath times.

However, if you only have the occasional bath or aren't likely to use it as an everyday speaker, I'd probably suggest saving your money and treating yourself to a few of Lush's incredible bath bombs instead. They're a far more affordable way to bring a little luxury into your bathroom.

For fellow bath lovers though, especially those who, like me, could happily spend hours soaking in the tub, the Bath Bot is absolutely worth the investment. Sometimes a luxury purchase really does live up to the hype, and for me, this is one of them.
