DJI’s smallest portable power station yet delivers impressive charging speeds, smart features and enough power for life away from the mains

DJI, a company that makes portable, battery powered devices for creators, is perhaps the perfect company to dip its toe into the portable power station market.

And its new DJI Power 1000 Mini might be its best offering yet. It's relatively compact, powerful enough for serious work off grid, and it has some extremely clever touches.

It's actually the smallest portable power station offered by the camera and drone specialist and, on paper at least, a 1kWh power station doesn't sound particularly revolutionary. There are plenty of them around.

What makes the Power 1000 Mini different is how much DJI has managed to shrink it without sacrificing capacity. At just 11.5kg, it's noticeably lighter and more compact than most rivals offering a similar 1008Wh battery, making it far easier to lift into a motorhome, caravan or car boot.

The first thing that stands out, though, is the design. Like DJI's drones, it feels exceptionally well thought out. I absolutely love the built-in retractable 100W USB-C cable that neatly stows away when not in use, and I also love the fact that such a compact power station can reach 80% charge in around 58 minutes.

DJI has also integrated a 400w solar controller and a 400w car charging system directly into the unit. That means fewer external boxes and accessories to buy compared with some competitors. Solar panels are a perfect fit with this device, and it’s not too big a financial leap to add a decent panel on.

Its inverter isn't the strongest on the market, however. The Power 1000 Mini delivers 800w continuously with peaks up to 1000w. Importantly, that's still plenty for DJI fans who need it for their laptops, drone and camera batteries, phones, and tablets - but don't expect it to boil a kettle or keep your tent warm.

Cleverly, though, drone owners can fast-charge compatible DJI batteries directly from the power station using dedicated accessories, making it an even more compelling option for photographers, videographers and content creators working remotely.

The app integration is excellent too. Like most DJI products, setup is straightforward and the mobile app provides clear monitoring of inputs, outputs, battery health and firmware updates.

Normally, all this tech comes at a hefty price. And of course, it's not cheap. You can currently get one for £449, so it isn't the cheapest 1kWh power station available. Rivals from EcoFlow, Bluetti and Jackery often offer similar capacity for less money during sales.

That said, few competitors combine this level of portability, charging speed and refinement in such a compact package. And, if you're sold into the DJI ecosystem already, not only will its compatibility be a huge draw, you'll know that you get what you pay for.

Fundamentally, DJI has created something that's genuinely easy to live with. It's compact enough to take almost anywhere, powerful enough for most real-world uses, and packed with thoughtful touches that make daily use simpler.

If you're a camper, motorhome owner, drone pilot or remote worker who values portability above raw output, this could well be one of the most appealing 1kWh power stations currently available.
