Adam Kay - former doctor, now award-winning, best-selling author and stand-up, will be touring some of the UK’s most prominent arts venues throughout September 2022.

It marks the comedian’s biggest UK tour to date, commencing at the Edinburgh Usher Hall on September 7, and culminating at London SSE Arena Wembley on September 24.

Billed as ‘an evening of stand-up and music’, the live comedy show will also feature brand-new stories from his forthcoming book Undoctored: The Story of a Medic Who Ran Out of Patients.

On the new tour, Adam said: ‘It feels like the natural progression of my surreal 2022 to go from Ben Whishaw playing me on television to performing at Wembley.

2023’s really going to have up its game – perhaps I’ll be made king or move to Jupiter. I can’t wait to get This is Going to Hurt… More out on the road and subject the UK to more of my repulsive stories.’

How much are tickets to This is Going To Hurt ... More?

This is Going To Hurt is currently winning accolades as a drama on BBC one, with Ben Wishaw portraying the author Adam Kay during his harrowing (and hilarious) time as an obstetrician.

Adapted from Kay’s own novel, it’s received universal praise for it’s depiction of an over-stretched NHS. Our own TV writer Alex Moreland notedThis Is Going To Hurt is deeply watchable; for all that its drama is visceral and intense, it’s intimate too, and always very funny.”

It was adapted from Adam Kay’s novel, also entitled This is Going To Hurt, which in turn was adapted from Kay’s stand-up comedy show based on his time as an obstetrician.

An award-winning talent

As an award-winning live performer, Adam has sold out multiple Edinburgh Fringe runs, West End seasons and UK and international tours.

His live tour of This is Going to Hurt was one of the most-attended UK comedy shows of recent years, seen by more than 250,000 people and described by the Guardian as “electrifying” and “blissfully brilliant” by Mail on Sunday.

In book form, This is Going to Hurt (his debut novel), was a literary sensation: a Sunday Times number one bestseller for over a year.

It has sold over 2.5 million copies, making it the bestselling UK narrative non-fiction book of the 21st century. It is the bestselling non-fiction e-book of all time and has been translated into 37 languages (and counting).
