When I saw the photographs of Kate Middleton as she walked in Leeds market, I just knew that she was wearing Alexander McQueen as it is without question, her go to designer label. Kate was in Kirkgate Market in Leeds, West Yorkshire, for the launch of her new early years campaign and opted for an Alexander McQueen bespoke coat and a midi cream Victoria Beckham dress.

According to Vogue, the moment Kate Middleton decided to wear an Alexander McQueen wedding dress, was the day she “majestically transformed into the image of a 21st-century style icon. Together, she and Burton (Sarah Burton, the Creative Director of the label), have achieved a new visage for the staid image of the monarchy-one that embraces femininity and modesty without pretension-in looks from casual knitwear dresses with nautical influences to more fluid cocktail frocks in blush tones”

I totally concur with Vogue’s viewpoint on Kate’s decision to wear an Alexander McQueen gown for her wedding day as the turning point in how the fashion world viewed her. When she stepped out on the 29 April 2011 in the bespoke lace Alexander McQueen bridal dress, it heralded Kate as someone who would be known from that day on as a fashion icon.

From that day on, it was no wonder that Kate has continued to wear Alexander McQueen outfits. PeopleWorld has picked out 7 of our favourite Kate-Alexander McQueen outfits to date.

1. Kate’s wedding dress in 2011

Without question, Kate’s Alexander McQueen bridal dress was nothing short of a triumph. When I first saw it it reminded me of the iconic Grace Kelly’s wedding gown that is my favourite bridal dress of all time. Both dresses featured full skirts with dramatic long trains, long sleeves, and lots of lace.

2. Kate’s BAFTA dress in 2019

This one shouldered Alexander McQueen dress was very chic, and also very bridal. It could easily have been worn by a bride on her wedding day, but worked equally as well at the BAFTA awards.

5. Kate’s dress for Pippa Middleton’s wedding in 2017

As Kate Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen dress for her own wedding, it made sense that she also chose to wear it for her sister Pippa’s big day. The blush pink bespoke Alexander McQueen dress was the perfect hue for a wedding and looked incredibly elegant.

6. Kate’s lavender dress for a BAFTA event in 2011

Kate has worn this Alexander McQueen lavender dress for a 2011 BAFTA event in Los Angeles and the Earthshot Prize Awards in London in 2021. The dress looked as current in 2021 as it did in 2011.

The Alexander McQueen dress that Kate decided to wear on the royal tour in 2016 was a nod to the colours of the Canadian flag and was a very fun choice.
