King Charles III is likely to follow in the footsteps of his later mother, Queen Elizabeth II by adopting the tradition of celebrating his birthday twice. However no announcement has been made regarding this yet.

Queen Elizabeth II’s actual birthday was on April 21, but she typically celebrated the day quietly at Windsor Castle. The late Queen’s official birthday was normally celebrated on the second Saturday in June.

The King is expected to spend his birthday privately and no public engagements have been planned for today (November 14).

Although no official events are scheduled to take place, the Band of the Household Cavalry will perform Happy Birthday during the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

To mark his birthday, there will be gun salutes fired across London. The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will fire 41 volleys at London’s Green Park. Immediately afterwards, the Band of the Scots Guards are set to perform Happy Birthday. At 1pm, the Honourable Artillery Company will fire a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London.

The King marked his 73rd birthday as Prince Charles by releasing a photograph of himself sitting on a bench in the gardens at his Highgrove birthday. He spent the day attending the annual Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph.

Yesterday, the King led his first Remembrance Sunday as monarch and laid a wreath at the Cenotaph in honour of the nation’s dead. The wreath was a new poppy one that incorporated a ribbon of his racing colours. The design was a tribute to the ones used by both his late mother and his grandfather George VI.

The ceremony was attended by the new prime minister Rishi Sunak, the labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, and other party leaders, and senior members of the cabinet.

Seven former prime ministers attended the ceremony, including Boris Johnson, Theresa May and Liz Truss.

The Princess of Wales joined the Queen Consort on the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office building in central London to watch the proceedings.

They both wore three poppies and the theory behind it is to pay respect to their own family members who have fought and died in wars. However, this has never been confirmed by Buckingham Palace in the past.

Catherine, the Princess of Wales paid tribute to her late mother-in-law princess Diana by wearing a pair of her diamond and pearl drop earrings. She arrived at the service with her husband, the Prince of Wales.

King Charles 111 was treated to an early birthday card in Leeds last week. He was presented with a card by Mason Hicks, the city’s children’s mayor. The King met Mason during his two-day tour of Yorkshire.

“Thank you-you’re very clever to know it’s my birthday” he said to Mason when he was gifted the card. Mason Hicks was elected to children’s mayor after a successful campaign highlighting children’s mental and physical health.
