King Charles’s coronation is fast approaching on May 6 and while the main focus up until now seemed to be around whether Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would be attending, it appears that this might be changing.

According to reports, The Queen Consort is keen to have her five teenage grandchildren play a key role on the day. She is believed to want them to hold the canopy over her as she is anointed with holy oil.

This marks a departure from the past where duchesses have performed the role in what is considered to be one of the most sacred parts of the ceremony.

Although Camilla’s grandchildren have been kept out of the public glare for many years, this will obviously bring them to the forefront of the world’s attention. Her five grandchildren are Lola and Freddy, the daughter and son of Tom Parker-Bowles, and Eliza, Louis and Gus who are the children of her daughter, Laura Lopes.

Who is Laura Lopes?

Although Laura Lopes’s brother Tom Parker-Bowles is more widely known, Laura has kept herself more out of the limelight. She is married to chartered accountant Harry Lopes, the couple wed in 2006. Harry is a former Calvin Klein model.

Laura studied History of Art at Oxford Brookes University and founded Eleven, a fine art gallery in Belgravia, London, in 2005.

Who is Tom Parker-Bowles?

Tom Parker-Bowles is widely known as a food writer and restaurant critic. He married journalist Sara Buys in 2005 and had two children with her, Lola and Freddy, but the pair split in 2018.

A few years ago, Tom revealed to Today Extra that he doesn't cook that much for his mother. “Even when we are there at Christmas, she is quite single minded in the kitchen. It’s her kitchen and we argue a bit,” he revealed.

The Queen Consort is said to have a close relationship with both her children and they were obviously by her side (along with Prince William and Prince Harry) when she married King Charles (the then Prince of Wales) in 2005.
