Apparently, despite all the pomp and pageantry that is ramping up as we draw closer to the coronation of King Charles III, the general public (aka you dear reader) aren’t at all fussed about one of the most historic moments in world history. That is according to a recent poll by YouGov, who asked the question “How much do you care about the forthcoming coronation of King Charles?” and the answer isn’t quite flattering for the future King of England and the Commonwealth.
Having surveyed 3000 people, 35% responded that they didn’t care very much about it at all, with 29% surveyed responding they don’t care at all about the coronation. Those results were followed up with 24% saying they had some interest in the event and 9% stating they care a great deal about the coronation, with the usual 3% of people not sure how they feel.

When it comes to the political alignments regarding those surveyed, those that support the Liberal Democrats were the majority who responded they didn’t care very much, while in the battle between remain and leave voters, it was the remainers that came out as the majority regarding their apathy towards the May 6 occasion.
Although any excuse for a party and a public holiday swayed some of the public when YouGov asked those surveyed “how likely are you to watch King Charles’ coronation and/or take part in celebrations surrounding it?” Though 28% stated they wouldn’t at all likely be celebrating the event, 27% responded that indeed they would likely take part in either local events or watch the occasion live on television.
Of those that stated they would be taking part in some fashion, the majority of those surveyed came from the rest of the South of England, followed closely by the Midlands surprisingly.

Interestingly, when people surveyed were asked “it has been reported that Prince Harry will attend King Charles' coronation next month without wife Meghan. What would be your preference on who should attend the coronation,” 46% stated that they didn’t mind either way, demonstrating that perhaps the frosty reception to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attending is more of a concern for “the firm” than it is the general public.
