After months of speculation, Erik ten Hag has been appointed the new manager of Manchester United.

Ralf Rangnick was brought in back in November to take on an interim role after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sent on his way, and the intervening months have seen several names linked with a move to Old Trafford, but the board has now confirmed that the Ajax manager will take on the permanent position.

He is currently on a contract with Ajax that should have seen him leave in 2023, but United have paid a £2.5 million compensation fee to the Dutch outfit in order to sign ten Hag and his assistant Mitchell van der Gaag.

An exact figure for ten Hag’s new salary is yet to be announced but reports from the Express ten days ago declared that he would be “best-paid Dutch manager in Premier League history”.

During Louis Van Gaal’s time at United, he received around £3.3 million a year and his Dutch successor is set to earn more.

Ten Hag’s most expensive signing is former West Ham striker Sebastien Haller. Haller was experiencing an unhappy spell in London and had previously signed with Utretch back in 2015 for £675,000.

Ten Hag then took the opportunity to sign the striker once again, but for the much more pricier expense of £20million.

He has since scored 11 goals in the Champions League and netted over 50 for the club overall.

Former United player Daley Blind is another up on ten Hag’s top signings. He was bought after Jose Mourinho made him available in 2018 for a fee of £14m

Another Premier League player, Dusan Tadic is another of ten Hag’s great successes. The winger was bought from Southampton in 2018 for £12m and has since become a staple in ten Hag’s Ajax formation.

Former America’s player Edson Alvarez has become a key playmaker in Ajax’ defensive midfield after ten Hag bought the player for £14m in 2019.

Ryan Babel is one of ten Hag’s most successful loan players. The Dutch international previously played for Ajax but left to join a number of smaller clubs in Turkey, Spain and the UAE Arabian Gulf League.

Ten Hag then secured a loan figure of £1.5m from Galatasaray for their winger and he has gone on to score three goals in his 25 appearances for the team sitting top of the Eredivisie.
