AFC Bournemouth agree Julian Araujo deal as defender set to join Celtic in January transfer window

AFC Bournemouth have agreed a deal that will see defender Julian Araujo leave the club on loan.

The Mexico international arrived at the Vitality Stadium in August 2024, joining from Barcelona.

But this season, he has fallen down the pecking order and made just one appearance so far - in the 2-0 defeat to Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

Araujo has been on the bench for eight Premier League games, but been an unused substitute on every occasion.

According to the Bournemouth Echo, Araujo will join Celtic on loan for the rest of the season - but business needs to be conducted elsewhere first.

With all international loan spots allocated, the Cherries will have to recall someone before the Mexican can depart. It’s thought that 22-year-old Sadi will be brought back to England, having played 10 games for Serbian side Novi Pazar this season.

The news comes as rumours continue to circulate about Antoine Semenyo’s future. The winger has a £65m release clause that activated yesterday (January 1), with the Premier League’s top sides keen on securing his signature.

At the time of publication, there has been no new update on Semenyo’s departure, although the Ghana international apparently wanted his future nailed down by the end of 2025.
