That old familiar feeling of numbness and desolation feels worse than ever before, after England threw away an early lead to eventually lose on penalties to Italy in the Final of Euro 2020 last night.
Suddenly, watching 'The Hundred' cricket competition and developing an unhealthy obsession with the Northern Superchargers seems like a capital idea.
Or perhaps quietly curling up in the fetal position in a darkened room, basking in the ambient majesty of 'The Blue Planet' for an hour or two. Anything to distract from the harrowing flashbulb memory of young Bukayo Saka's tears, to be honest.
As tempting as it is to pretend Euro 2020 never happened and to go to ground for a week, that ain't gonna cut the mustard, and it's time to take a look at the players who absolutely smashed it during the enthralling month-long competition.
Here's a rundown of the best starting XI, based on WhoScored's in-depth statistics measured over the course of the tournament:

He's been officially named the Player of the Tournament, after keeping three clean sheets in the groups stages, and then ensuring his side won back-to-back penalty shoot-outs; the honour is richly deserved. He's now going on to live every boy's dream of not winning the Champions League with PSG... Photo: John Sibley - Pool
. RB: Vladimir Coufal - average rating: 7.3
A surprise selection here, but the Czech Republic man played a vital role in his side's push to the quarter-finals. He was too hot for Scotland to handle in their group stage clash, and was unlucky to be on the losing side when they crashed out the tournament at the hands of Denmark. Photo: Tibor Illyes - Pool

Dear, sweet Slabhead, it just wasn't to be. He barely put a foot wrong over the course of England's seven matches - impressing against Ukraine and Denmark in particular - and topped it all off with a sensational penalty in the shootout against Italy. Photo: Ettore Ferrari - Pool
4. CB: Leonardo Bonucci - average rating: 7.1
Man of the Match in the Final, the veteran defender rounded off the competition with a vintage performance to bring the trophy back to Rome. He held a whopping 10% of the whole game's possession by himself, and was once again dominant in the air. Photo: ANDY RAIN
