FIFA statement on Premier League postponed fixtures - how it will affect Tottenham Hotspur & Liverpool

A number of Premier League matches had to be postponed over Christmas due to Covid-19.

Boxing Day fixtures involving Liverpool, Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Watford, Burnley and Everton are all due to be rescheduled.

Meanwhile, the likes of Tottenham, Leicester City and Burnley have also seen a number of their matches delayed following multiple positive Covid-19 results.

It hasn’t been confirmed when the fixtures will take place, but according to Mail Sport FIFA will allow games to take place during this month’s international break.

The break runs from January 24 to February 2 - meaning a number of Premier League will be able to catch up with all their missed matches.

Though the likes of Burnley - who had three matches postponed - still face trouble rescheduling the rest of their games.

A FIFA spokesperson said: "The release of players is mandatory for all international windows listed in the international match calendar.

"Therefore, should clubs and leagues decide to play on those dates they would not be able to feature any player who has been called up/is on international duty."

Liverpool, who saw their Boxing Day clash with Leeds United postponed, will be hit hard if they are forced to reschedule during the international break.

With Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita already competing in the Africa Cup of Nations, they would also have to face the Whites without Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino.

Leeds United would be without their star man Raphinha - though the Brazilian is thankfully the only player likely to be away on international duty.

Tottenham Hotspur are another side that would be badly affected by the potential rescheduling - with Harry Kane (England), Hugo Lloris (France), Sergio Reguilon (Spain) and a number of other first team players likely to be called up by their respective countries.
