Five highest scoring North London derbies of the decade as Arsenal host Spurs this weekend

Arsenal have had a very poor start to the season and currently sit 13th in the league after failing to score in their opening three matches.

The Gunners will be hoping to win back some support from their supporters as they compete in the North London derby this weekend, while Spurs will be looking to get back to winning ways after a brilliant start to the season turned sour with their last two matches ending in defeat.

Arsenal beat Spurs in this exact fixture in March and haven’t won consecutive league games against their rivals since doing the double over them during the 2013/14 campaign.

While Spurs will be the favourites this weekend, the stats are definitely against them, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side winning only one of their last 28 league visits to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal 4-2 Spurs

2nd December 2018

Arsenal and Spurs were in fourth and fifth position respectively following the 4-2 win for the hosts back in 2018.

Unai Emery’s side took an early lead with a penalty from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before Eric Dier equalised on the half hour mark, followed by a second penalty goal four minutes later - this time for Harry Kane.

This was the first time that Arsenal had won a North london derby in the Prmeier League after trailing at half-time since 2007, with Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira netting in the second half to hand the Gunners the victory.

The former became the fifth Arsenal player to bag a brace in the derby in the Premier League alongside Emmanuel Adebayor, Gilberto Silva, Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott.

Arsenal 5-2 Spurs

17th November 2012

Another high scoring North London derby meant yet another win for Arsenal - this time back in 2012 when Arsene Wenger was in charge at the Emirates Stadium.

Former Spurs striker Adebayor took the lead for the visitors, before a trio of Arsenal goals from Per Mertersacker, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud meant the hosts were 3-1 up at half-time.

A fourth and fifth from Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott capped off a brilliant day for the gunners, while Gareth Bale could only manage a consolation goal.

26th February 2012

Nine months prior to the previous 5-2 inihilation, Arsenal beat Spurs with the exact same scoreline at the Emirates Stadium.

Louis Saha and Adebayor gave Harry Redknapp’s side a healthy 2-0 advantage on the half hour mark, before Bakary Sagna and Robin van Persie both netted within five minutes of the half-time whistle to equalise.

Arsenal were on the front foot going into the second half and a goal from Tomas Rosicky and a double from Walcott guaranteed them the three points.

Despite the loss, Spurs remained above Arsenal in the league table.

Spurs 3-3 Arsenal

20th April 2011

In April 2011 the North London rivals played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Walcott got the away fans cheering with an early goal after five minutes, however Rafael van der Vaart hit back with an immediate equaliser.

The Gunners weren’t about to stop there though and Samir Nasri gifted them the lead once again only five minutes later.

The goal flurry was over and supporters had to wait to the end of the half to see Robin van Persie take Arsenal’s goal tally to three, before Tom Huddlestone pulled one back on half-time.

Spurs’ second unnerved Arsenal and Wenger’s side couldn’t prevent the equaliser - a penalty and van der Vaart’s second of the afternoon.

Arsenal found themselves in fifth position following the loss, while Tottenham sat in fifth.

20th November 2010

The second league derby of the decade saw Spurs narrowly beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

First half goals from Nasri and Marouane Chamakh meant Arsenal held a two goal lead up until 50 minutes had passed before the flood gates opened.

Wales international Bale scored the first, before a penalty from van der Vaart took it to 2-2 and an unexpected scorer in Younes Kaboul bagged the winner for for the visitors.
