Micah Richards has lauded N’Golo Kante for his man of the match display in Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final victory over Real Madrid in midweek.

The Blues booked their place in final two of Europe’s most prestigious club competition on Wednesday thanks to goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount, as well as a 1-1 draw in Spanish capital a week prior.

But it was Kante who stole the show in the centre of the park, putting in a typically energetic and assured performance to help stifle Real’s midfield trio of Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Luka Modric.

The Frenchman was awarded man of the match on the night for his brilliant display, and Richards has been quick to hail his efforts against the Spanish giants.

Writing in a column for the Daily Mail, he said: “It takes someone special to be man of the match in three consecutive Champions League games, but N’Golo Kante achieved that feat on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

“What a force of nature.

“He’s aggressive, he passes well, he can dribble, he tackles, he anticipates danger and he reads the game. The only thing Kante struggles with is shooting from outside the box, but that is a minor complaint.

“He was a joy to watch against Real Madrid and long may it continue.”

Kante made seven ball recoveries in midweek, three of which came in the opposition’s half, as well as winning 100% of his loose ball duels, and making three interceptions.
