Has Remi Moses died? Ex-Manchester United star's wife tells Greek media he passed away

Tributes have been pouring in for a former Manchester United footballer - who hasn’t actually died.

Reports in Greek media earlier today (Tuesday, December 2) suggested that Remi Moses, a defensive midfielder who played for Man United in the 1980s, had died.

A tribute had been sent to his former club Doxa Pigadakion by his wife, and a date and time had been set for the 65-year-old’s funeral.

But as the news reached UK shores, articles published by other national outlets were swiftly taken down; now, it appears they may have jumped the gun.

Posting on X, journalist Andy Mitten said: “Understand social media rumours of Remi Moses dying are not true. He's alive and well.

“But had he looked on social media, he'd have seen how many people absolutely loved him as a player.”

One of Moses’ children, Reece Blakeley, confirmed that his father was indeed still alive. He said: “I have just spoken with my brothers. Can confirm the legend is still alive and well.”

Moses played 150 games for Man United in the 1980s, having come up through the academy at West Brom. After retiring from football, he started working as a property dealer in Greater Manchester, before moving out to Greece.

Doxa Pigadakion, a Greek club Moses briefly coached in 2020, had published a detailed obituary, and announced a funeral date of December 13. The club said the news had come directly from his wife.

Their statement read: “Remi, for several years now, has been a permanent resident of Zakynthos. With our club, and with its people, he has always had communication and a two-way sporting respect.

“These feelings led his wife to contact us immediately yesterday Tuesday morning, to inform us that Remi is no longer with us, and to ask for some small help.

“Our club expresses its deepest condolences to his family.”
