It’s going to be a while before the pain of Sunday’s Euro 2020 final subsides.
England came so close to ending 55 years of hurt, but were ultimately pipped at the post in a penalty shootout against Roberto Mancini’s impressive Italy side.
But even though the wait for a major international trophy will have to go on for a while longer, Gareth Southgate and his squad still gave the country plenty of reasons to be proud, and plenty of hope for the future.
There were a number of heroic performances over the course of the tournament, and stats-based website Whoscored have collated every England player’s average match ratings to determine who the Three Lions’ player of the tournament really was.
