England and Germany face off in the last 16 of Euro 2020 on Tuesday evening, with both sides desperate to book their place in the next round.

The Three Lions got this far by winning their group without conceding a goal, although a lack of cutting edge in the final third could still prove to be an issue for Gareth Southgate’s men.

For their part, Germany left it late to secure second spot in a tricky group alongside France, Portugal, and Hungary last week, with Leon Goretzka scoring an 84th minute equaliser against the Hungarians to prevent his side from crashing out at the first hurdle.

England vs Germany team news

Following on from their 1-0 win over the Czech Republic, England have no fresh injury concerns to contend with.

Harry Maguire completed a full 90 minutes in that game, while Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson also came on from the bench.

The two key absences against the Czechs were Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, with both players forced into self-isolation after coming into contact with Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour. The 20-year-old returned a positive Covid test recently.

However, Mount and Chilwell will end their isolation on Monday, and both should be available for selection as things stand.

England vs Germany predictions

England don’t have the best record against Germany at major international tournaments to put it mildly – and nobody knows that better than manager Gareth Southgate, who suffered penalty heartache in the semi-final of Euro ‘96.

This promises to be another tight and cagey affair, with two sides fully aware of the fact that a win here would set them on an encouraging route towards the final. The winner will play either Sweden or Ukraine in the last eight.

Germany haven’t looked at their best so far in this tournament, but then again, neither have the Three Lions.

Whoever rises to the occasion better should edge this one, but it could be settled by a single goal either way.

Latest England vs Germany odds

As things stand, England are the marginal favourites to win this one at a price of 6/4.

For their part, Germany are priced at 15/8, while the odds on a draw come in at 9/4.

The prospect of a penalty shootout is a dreaded one for England supporters, but the price of the Three Lions doing the unthinkable and beating the Germans from the spot is 11/1.

Despite drawing a blank in the group stage, Harry Kane is still favourite to open the goal-scoring for England at a price of 7/2, while Serge Gnabry and Timo Werner are both priced at 6/1 for the visitors.

What was the last result between England vs Germany?

The last meeting between the two sides came in November 2017, with that friendly ending in a 0-0 stalemate.

England have won just one of their last five meetings against Germany, however, beating Joachim Low’s men 3-2 in Berlin in March 2016.

The Three Lions fought back from a two-goal deficit in that clash, with Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy levelling things up before Eric Dier hit a last minute winner.
