UEFA Champions League predictions: How the groups will look after the remaining two fixtures

Chelsea and Manchester United will play their penultimate Champions League group game this evening, while Manchester City and Liverpool will both host their European opponents tomorrow.

The opening four fixtures have given us some brilliant performances and exciting scorelines but the final two matches of the groups will prove the most important for many sides.

Here is how I predict the Champions League groups will look following the final two matches…

Group A

Manchester City face Paris Saint-Germain tomorrow night and while they lost out to the French club last time out, I am expecting Pep Guardiola's side to bounce back with a win.

With all the current talk around Mauricio Pochettino fuelling a move to Manchester United, I expect PSG to be unsettled and that could affect their performance at the Etihad Stadium.

I can see City taking two wins from two in their final matches, while I can see RB Leipzig finally taking three points off Club Brugge with PSG coming up in December.

I can’t see any major surprises in this group with City and PSG being the ones to progress – though I expect the Premier League side to come out on top.

Group B

Liverpool’s brilliant start to their Champions League campaign means their final two matches are pretty irrelevant and could see some of the youngsters and fringe players given a chance - especially given their current injury crisis.

Despite a weakened team, I don't think Porto will cause any issues for them tomorrow, though I expect their final fixture for AC Milan to not matter for either side, with the Italian club sat bottom of the group. A youthful Liverpool side may even slip up against Milan.

Meanwhile, I would like to think Atletico Madrid can bounce back from their horror show against Jurgen Klopp’s side and will be the second team to progress on what was thought to be a group of death.

Group C

Ajax currently lead Group C after two brilliant performances against Borussia Dortmund in their previous two matches.

The Dutch side face Besiktas tomorrow, who are yet to pick up a point and are likely to prove of little competition to Ajax, while Dortmund take on Sporting Lisbon.

This group has conjured up some very interesting results and no doubt will it continue over the next few weeks, but I expect the unsurprising duo of Ajax and Dortmund to come out on top in the end.

Group D

To think that this group could see any team other than Real Madrid and Inter Milan progress is astounding, however FC Sheriff have shown they are very much a side to be afraid of after their victory over the Spanish giants.

The Moldovan club have dropped off a bit and while they may snatch a point off Shakhtar Donetsk on the final day, it seems unlikely that Real Madrid will allow yet another embarrassment on their behalf.

A win against Shakhtar will likely be enough to see Inter progress, while FC Sheriff will see their European journey come to an end.

Group E

Barcelona have endured a difficult group stage so far and were looking like they could head out under Ronald Koeman, but the arrival of Xavi may offer them a much needed boost ahead of their vital match against Benfica tonight.

However, I doubt that will be quite enough to help them overcome Bayern Munich in their final match, with the Germans likely to finish their group with six wins from six.

Meanwhile, I expect Benfica to narrowly miss out even after they inevitably beat Dynamo Kyiv in a couple of weeks.

Group F

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure has come at a bad time for Villarreal, who face Manchester United this evening.

However, the Red Devils are still without a permanent manager and I expect them to only manage a draw against Unai Emery’s side.

It is still all to play for in Group F and I expect Atalanta’s fixture against Villarreal to be the decider - with the Italians benefitting from the home advantage.

Meanwhile, I can see Manchester United redeeming themselves against Young Boys on the final day with an easily win to narrowly take them top on goal difference.

Group G

Perhaps the most underwhelming group for Premier League fans, Group G could still see any of the four teams progress.

Sevilla – six times winners of the Europa League – have endured a difficult start and my predicted four points in their final two fixtures still might not be enough to see them through.

Meanwhile, it could be RB Salzburg and Lille fighting it out for the spot, of which I expect the Austrian club to edge it on goal difference.

Group H

Group H is probably the most predictable, with Juventus and Chelsea dominating so far.

It was the Italians that came out victorious between the two sides earlier in the campaign, however I expect the current champions to take the three points tonight given their current form.

A straight forward win over Zenit will likely see Chelsea top the group but only on goal difference, while Malmo and the Russians will be left behind.
