Pochettino’s wife and children are still based in London following his time with Tottenham Hotspur, causing the Argentine to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

Sky Sports have claimed Pochettino is Manchester United’s first choice target to take over at the club but it is unclear whether they will be tempted to adhere to his demands of an appointment sooner rather than later.

The Red Devils appear to be keeping their options open however and have reportedly already approached ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, as well as Leicester City's Brendan Rodgers.

The process of finding the ideal replacement for Ole is likely to go on for some time and Carrick is set to remain in charge for the club’s tough run that will see them come up against Arsenal and Chelsea.
