Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is the early favourite to replace Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs made the decision to sack the former Wolves head coach following their 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester United on Saturday, a woeful display from the London side where they offered little resistance.

Coaches Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have also left the club along with the 47-year old.

Santo only held the position at the London Stadium for four months, having been appointed in June this year and leaves the club sitting ninth in the Premier League table with five wins and five defeats from their opening ten matches.

The Portuguese coach also took them to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup and they will face West Ham at home on December 21.

The question now is: Who is next for Spurs?

Conte, 52, has been out of work since leaving Inter Milan earlier this year and has a proven track record of success, having lead Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2017.

The Italian has also had spells with Juventus, Atalanta and the Italian Men’s national team during his managerial career.

The betting market opens with him as early favourite at 2/1.

Closely behind Conte as joint second favourites are current Brighton manager Graham Potter and former Roma head coach Paulo Fonseca both at 5/1.

Potter has been gaining lots of praise for his performances with south coast side this season and currently has them sitting seventh in the league table.

Meanwhile, Fonseca is believed to have held talks with Newcastle United about the vacant manager’s position at St James’ Park - could Spurs make a move to snap him up before their Premier League rivals?

Ryan Mason, who took interim charge of the club before Santo’s appointment, comes in at 6/1 and rounding off the early contenders are Brendan Rodgers and Eddie Howe who are both priced at 15/2.

Leicester City boss Rodgers is another name who was linked with the Newcastle job but was quick to distance himself from that position, seeming more than content to content to continue his work with the Foxes.

He has also been heavily touted as a potential replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjær - should Manchester United choose to relieve the Norwegian of his position.

Former Bournemouth boss Howe has been out of work since leaving the Cherries in 2020 and always seems to be in or around the favourites whenever a job becomes available at a top level club.

He looked for all the world to be heading north of the border to become the manager of Celtic earlier this year but that move collapsed late into the negotiation process.

Other intriguing names in the race include former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino (14/1) and Tottenham icon Jurgen Klinsmann (16/1).

The full list of early odds (via Betfair) are:

  • Antonio Conte 2/1
  • Graham Potter 5/1
  • Paulo Fonseca 5/1
  • Ryan Mason 6/1
  • Brendan Rodgers 15/2
