On Sunday afternoon, Spurs once again fell at the final hurdle, as Carabao Cup serial winners Manchester City grabbed a late goal to win the competition for the fourth time on the trot, with a 1-0 victory at Wembley Stadium.
The demoralising defeat book-ended a dramatic week off the field for Spurs, who were embroiled in the European Super League scandal that threatened to change football as we know it, before collapsing like a dodgy souffle within just 48 hours.
On top of all that, they casually sacked Jose Mourinho less than a week before the cup final - which is a bit like telling Ethan Hunt from Mission Impossible to do one on the eve of breaking into a CIA high-security vault.
Now, it's been 13 long years since Spurs last won a trophy, and those cringe-worthy commemorative ‘Carabao Cup 2021 Finalists’ mugs sum up how dire their situation has become.
And so, here are nine left-field competitions the north London outfit could target to finally bring a taste of glory back to the club:
1. Village fete vegetable growing contest
Start out modestly to get the ball rolling - that's the way forward. With those top-notch training facilities, there's room for a field or two in which to cultivate some rosette-worthy corn cobs. The Amazon Prime documentary of this journey would be gripping viewing. Photo: Justin Sullivan
2. The Great British Bake Off
Imagine the scenes as Hugo Lloris unveils his towering croquembouche showstopper and is crowned GBBO 2021 champion. Paul Hollywood ending the Frenchman's playing career with a finger-crushing 'Hollywood Handshake' would be a price worth paying, if it secured Spurs the iconic glass cake stand. 3. The British Open
Love your golf do you, Gareth Bale? Alright then, get stuck in and bring home the Claret Jug! The Real Madrid loanee sinking a ten-foot putt to win the competition on the final hole, before sprinting over to the cameras for the trademark heart celebration would be a glorious sight. 4. Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
It brings the tension, the drama, the iconic "But we don't want to give you that!" ripping away of a cheque - a Daniel Levy transfer negotiation special - and it could just be the arena where Spurs could flourish. Expect Mourinho to offer his services as a 'Phone a friend' lifeline and sabotage Tanguy Ndombele on the million pound question, though. Photo: DANIEL LEAL-OLIVAS
