In these times of great uncertainty, Tottenham Hotspur completely 'Spursing' up a cup final was perhaps the comforting embrace of normality we all - bar Spurs fans, obviously - needed to experience.

On Sunday afternoon, Spurs once again fell at the final hurdle, as Carabao Cup serial winners Manchester City grabbed a late goal to win the competition for the fourth time on the trot, with a 1-0 victory at Wembley Stadium.

The demoralising defeat book-ended a dramatic week off the field for Spurs, who were embroiled in the European Super League scandal that threatened to change football as we know it, before collapsing like a dodgy souffle within just 48 hours.

On top of all that, they casually sacked Jose Mourinho less than a week before the cup final - which is a bit like telling Ethan Hunt from Mission Impossible to do one on the eve of breaking into a CIA high-security vault.

Now, it's been 13 long years since Spurs last won a trophy, and those cringe-worthy commemorative ‘Carabao Cup 2021 Finalists’ mugs sum up how dire their situation has become.
