Russian footballer Lionel Adams found dead near Moscow as grieving mother speaks out
Russian footballer Lionel Adams has been found dead on the outskirts of Moscow, according to reports.
A police source told TASS that Adams’ body was discovered beside a residential building in the Moscow region, near the home of fellow footballer Timur Magomedov.
Russian Telegram channel Shot claimed the 30-year-old may have taken his own life due to unrequited love. That account was disputed by Adams’ mother, who told local media that her son did not have a partner.
It news comes just weeks after Adams was hospitalised following a violent incident in Zvenigorod. On December 27, he was reportedly beaten and shot in the hip near a restaurant during an altercation involving around 10 people. Adams later discharged himself from hospital.
Born in 1994 to a Nigerian father and a Russian mother, Adams came through CSKA Moscow’s youth system between 2012 and 2014. He later spent a season in Spain with Cerceda in 2017.
During his professional career, Adams also played for Yenisei, Volga and Kamaz.
Magomedov, whose building was located near where the body was found, is a goalkeeper for Dinamo Makhachkala.
