Ryan Mason sacked as West Brom manager after 'El Sackico' defeat - has an interim boss been appointed?
West Bromwich Albion have sacked head coach Ryan Mason after their 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.
The ‘El Sackico’ loss - named because whichever team lost seemed doomed to lose their gaffer - ended with the Baggies falling to 18th in the Championship table, seven points above the relegation zone. The loss was also West Brom’s 10th consecutive away defeat.
Mason, 34, joined West Brom from Tottenham Hotspur on a three-year deal but has been unable to mount a sustained promotion challenge. After winning three of their first four league matches this season, West Brom managed just six victories from their next 22 games.

Assistant coach Nigel Gibbs and head of performance Sam Pooley have also departed, with former midfielder James Morrison placed in interim charge.
West Brom face Swansea City away in the FA Cup on Sunday, January 11, and do not return to league action until Middlesbrough visit the Hawthorns on January 16.
In a statement, a club spokesperson aid: “The process of recruiting a new men's first team head coach and staff is underway.”
Defeat at Leicester, sealed by an added-time goal, was their fourth loss in five matches and leaves the club searching for a third permanent manager in the past year.
Speaking after the game, Mason said: “We are on a terrible run away from home. But in the last seven or eight games we’ve had more shots, more chances, and conceded very little.
“I’m proud of the team and the performance. We deserve a lot more than we’re getting.”
