The Barcelona striker was substituted in their match against Alaves last month due to breathing problems and he was later diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia.

Following further tests, Catalunya Radio’s ‘El Mati’ show has claimed that the pathology of the Argentine is more complicated than expected and, while he was originally expected to be absent for a few months, he could be forced to retire from professional football.

The latest report states that ‘'the medical resonances and stress tests that he has undergone in recent days are detailing that the heart problem is more serious than it was initially valued' at first, which could lead to Aguero being ‘incompatible’ with pro football at a level required by the La Liga giants.

What happened to Sergio Aguero?

Sergio Aguero had been struggling with chest pain towards the end of the first half against Alaves last month and Barcelona’s caretaker coach Sergi Barjuan said: “"I was told he was feeling a bit dizzy. I have just learnt that he was taken to hospital and I can't say much more until I know.”

The striker had been having breathing problems and was later taken to hospital to have his heart checked.

Aguero has been diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia after tests were conducted and remained in hospital for further testing.

It was confirmed yesterday at the start of November by FC Barcelona that the striker won’t play for three months following the incident and will receive treatment while his health is monitored.

Aguero has since said he is “well and in good spirits to face the recovery process” on social media - however today’s news will come as a huge shock to the 33-year-old, who only joined the La Liga club in the summer.

What is cardiac arrhythmia?

Cardiac arrhythmia is a heart rhythm frequency disorder which is something that he suffered with at the start of his career.
