Boxing Day; a day for turkey sandwiches, tolerating in-laws, and lots and lots of football.
The festive fixture list is a packed one, but few days in the footballing calendar command the same kind of attention and romance as the afternoon after Christmas.
Whether you’re heading out to a match, watching from the warmth of a pub with mates, or curled up on the sofa with a tin of Quality Street, there’s nothing better than the splurge of action that the Boxing Day fixtures usually bless us with. They’re an added little sweetener to the festive period, like finding an extra present under the tree that you didn’t know was there.
And it’s not just fans who enjoy the festive high jinks.
We’ve gone all “ghost of Christmas past” to rummage through the archives and take a look at the Premier League’s all-time leading Boxing Day goalscorers - the players who get into the holiday spirit like nobody else.
