No fewer than 55 footballing nations from across Europe have been whittled down to just four who will compete to lift the UEFA Nations League trophy

The finals of the UEFA Nations League will take place for just the second time ever as four of Europe’s top nations compete to lift the trophy.

The four countries will in one leg semi-finals followed by a final and third placed play off to determine the final standings for the 2021 competition.

In 2019, Portugal conquered The Netherlands 1-0 at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto, having beaten Switzerland in the semi-finals while the Dutch saw off England.

Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions finished the 2019 competition in the bronze position as they beat the Swiss on a penalty shoot-out in the third place play-off.

This year’s finals promise just as much excitement and here is everything you need to know:

Who is playing in the 2021 UEFA Nations League finals?

Italy, Belgium, France and Spain will compete for the trophy in this year’s finals.

Italy will face Spain in the first semi-final and France take on Belgium in the second.

The semi-final pairings were determined by means of an open draw on December 3, 2020.

Where are the 2021 UEFA Nations League finals being held?

Italy was confirmed as the host country for the 2021 finals by the UEFA Executive Committee during their meeting on December 3, 2020.

Italy v Spain will be held at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (more commonly known as the San Siro) in Milan and France v Belgium will be held at the Allianz Stadium in Turin - the home of Juventus.

The San Siro will also host the final while the Allianz Stadium will host the third place play-off.

When are the 2021 UEFA Nations League finals being played?

Italy v Spain is being played on Wednesday, October 6 with a 19:45 (BST) kick off while France v Belgium kicks off at the same time the following day, Thursday, October 7.

The third place play-off will take place on Saturday, October 10 with a 14:00 (BST) kick off .

The final of the 2021 UEFA Nations League will be played on Sunday, October 11 with a 19:45 (BST) kick off.

All of the 2021 UEFA Nations League finals matches will be broadcast live and exclusively on Sky Sports for UK viewers.

The matches will also be available to stream on the Sky Player while non-subscribers can purchase a NowTV package to view the matches.

Italy are the favourites to win the competition, completing the same European Championship and Nations League double that Portugal did in 2016 and 2019.
