England men’s cricket team have had a mixture of phenomenal success and catastrophic defeats in 2021.

The current scorecards in Australia are not boding well for the remaining matches. Australia thrashed England in the first Test in Brisbane by nine wickets and Marnus Labuscagne and David Warner have set up their team to most likely achieve a similar result in a few days time in Adelaide.

However, England’s cricketers have not had a year of just doom. Joe Root and his men started strongly taking the win in both tests during their tour of Sri Lanka in January. From there, it looked as if they were going to continue their winning streak as they travelled to India and beat their opponents by 227 runs in the first test.

However the luck ran dry as India took the next three tests to win the series 4-1. India then won the following T20I series 3-2 and the ensuing ODI series 2-1.

England then hosted New Zealand where the travellers won the series 1-0. It was then time to face Sri Lanka once again.

England smashed their opponents and won the series 3-0 before taking on Pakistan in an ODI series.

The main England squad was all forced to isolate due to certain players coming into contact with COVID-19 and a third-eleven was scrambled together just in time.

Miraculously the third eleven took the pitches by storm and were able to beat the Pakistani team 3-0.

In their last Test series of the summer, England was again fell down against the Indians in the summer and lost the Test series 2-1.

However, it was time to move on as England travelled to the United Arab Emirates to join in the World Cup excitement. Despite exceptionally strong performances from all players in the team, England could not make it past New Zealand and fell at almost the last hurdle.

Now, England fans will hope that 2022 can bring even more triumphs and joy, starting with the opportunity to win back that precious urn!

Here’s a look at some of England’s best moments from 2021:
