Gerard Pique has spoken out for the first time about his new relationship with Clara Chia Marti after the sticky end to his 11-year relationship with Shakira.

The former Barcelona defender and the Waka Waka singer met at the 2010 Fifa World Cup where Shakira was performing at the opening ceremony and Pique’s team would go on to win the championship.

Fast forward just over a decade and the pair share two sons, Milan and Sasha, and were living together in a beautiful home in Barcelona, worth nearly £5 million, before they announced their split in a joint statement in June 2022.

While the pair initially kept quiet about the reasons for their break up, it has since come to light through Shakira’s detective work with jam usage, no less, and videos, that Gerard may have been unfaithful with his new 23-year-old girlfriend Clara - who is a work colleague of Pique.

Shakira has since compared herself to Clara using lyrics in a song such as ‘you traded a Rolex for a Casio’, but the comparisons don’t seem to end there.

Speaking about Clara publicly for the first time in an interview with Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, Gerard admitted that his new flame wears the trousers in their relationship.

It comes a month after they became Instagram official, sharing a selfie together, and Gerard said: “The truth is I go with my girlfriend to the shops and she buys them for me. I’m a puppet.”

Therefore not only does Clara buy Gerard his trousers, but she also seems to wear the pants in their fairly new relationship.

In comparison, Shakira has previously spoken about the power balance between the former national player and herself in 2014, after controversy was sparked when she said that Gerard only allowed her to film music videos with women.

Shakira went on to clarify her comments in another interview stating that they shared the pants and discussed every decision.

The Hips Don’t Lie singer said: “I would say the balance of power is fairly equal, relationships have to have a give and take if they're going to work in the long term…Gerard doesn't tell me what to do — we discuss everything as a couple, as I imagine most partners do. We have a beautiful relationship and one of mutual trust."

Some may suggest that this quote has not aged well since 2014 considering the jammy end to the pair’s relationship, but considerably the pair reached a mutual agreement regarding custody of their children.

As for the power in Gerard's relationships, it seemingly has also shifted from a mutual understanding to Clara wearing the trousers.
