The 2022 edition of The Masters is underway as Augusta National once again plays host to one of the most famous golf tournaments in the world.

One of the four majors on the PGA Tour, the Georgia-based competition makes up part of the modern Grand Slam and has been one of the most popular tournaments since its inception in 1934.

Bobby Jones, one of the greatest golfers of all time and one of the most influential figures in the history of the sport, founded the competition 88 years ago.

Since then, the Green Jacket has become synonymous with the game of golf and it one of the most widely recognisable sporting prizes in the world.

Across the 85 editions of the competition, there have been 54 different winners from 12 different countries.

The legendary Jack Nicklaus holds the record for most tournament wins with six but Tiger Woods can equal that this year adding to the five Green Jackets he has won.

Although golfers from the USA have had the most success at The Masters, there have been plenty winners from all over the globe including Spain, South Africa and most recently Japan, after Hideki Matsuyama claimed victory in 2021.
