Great Britain hopes to bring back gold from Tokyo 2020 when the men’s golf tournament begins.

Team GB’s Justin Rose struck gold in the men’s event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio after the sport’s 112-year absence from the Games.

When does men’s golf start at the Olympics?

The Tokyo 2020 men’s golf competition started at 11.30pm (UK time) on Wednesday 28 July 2021 at the Kasumigaseki Country Club.

The Olympic golf competition consists of 72-hole individual stroke play for both men and women.

The men’s competition is scheduled to finish on Saturday 31 July.

The women’s golf event at the Tokyo Olympics runs from 3-6 August, starting at 11.30pm (UK time) each day.

Who is representing Team GB at Tokyo 2020

Four golfers have been selected to represent Team GB at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood will fly the flag for Team GB in the men’s competition and Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Mel Reid will compete in the women’s golf competition.

Who is Paul Casey?

Since turning professional in 2000, Casey has recorded 15 European Tour wins – most recently in January 2021 – and three on the PGA TOUR. He has represented Europe four times in the Ryder Cup, recording three victories over the United States in the biennial contest.

Who is Jodi Ewart Shadoff?

Ewart Shadoff is a three-time Solheim Cup player, marking her debut in Europe’s 2013 victory over the United States with two wins from three matches. Two further appearances followed in 2017 and the home victory at Gleneagles in 2019. She finished runner up in the 2017 Women’s British Open for her best finish in a Major championship.

Who is Tommy Fleetwood?

Five-time European Tour winner Fleetwood was crowned European Number One in 2017, finishing ahead of reigning Olympic champion Rose. He went on to make a memorable debut in the 2018 Ryder Cup in France, winning four points out of five.

Who is Mel Reid?

Reid secured her first LPGA win in 2020, adding to her six victories on the Ladies European Tour. She has represented Europe three times in the Solheim Cup, in 2011, 2015 and 2017, helping Europe to victory on her debut and securing an impressive 2.5 points from three two years later. She made her debut as vice-captain for the 2019 victory at Gleneagles.

The BBC is showing the Olympics on an array of platforms, either through its TV channels BBC One and Two, on iPlayer or the BBC Sport website. The golf will be shown mainly through the iPlayer but certain rounds and highlights will be shown on BBC TV channels.
