Scottie Scheffler may be going into the final round of The Masters with a three stroke lead but the winner of the Green Jacket is far from decided with 18 holes still to play at Augusta National.

Seven golfers currently sit on scores under par after the first three rounds and only one of them has ever won at The Masters before.

Others from the leading pack have tasted success at different majors and the rest are still looking for that first big win of their golfing careers.

Here is everything you need to know about the current top five players on the leaderboard going into the final round of play at the 2022 edition of The Masters:

Scottie Scheffler

  • Age: 25
  • Nationality: USA
  • Previous major wins: None
  • Current core: -9

The current leader at Augusta is also the current world number one ranked golfer on the PGA Tour.

The Texan has yet to win one of the four majors with his best finish so far coming in the 2020 edition of the PGA Championship where he tied for fourth.

Scheffler was part of the 2021 USA Ryder Cup team that beat Europe 19–9 with the 25-year old going 2-0-1 including a singles win over Jon Rahm.

He has also been in great form in 2022, recording wins on the PGA Tour at the WM Phoenix Open in February as well as the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

Cameron ‘Cam’ Smith

  • Age: 28
  • Nationality: Australia
  • Previous major wins: None
  • Current score: -6

The Brisbane native is also looking for his first ever major win and is hot on the heels of Scheffler.

His best ever performance at a major came at the 2022 edition of The Masters where he placed joint second finishing five strokes behind winner Dustin Johnson.

Smith has five career wins on the PGA Tour and was predicted to do well by many at this tournament due to his excellent iron game which favours the course at Augusta.

Im Sung-jae

  • Age: 24
  • Nationality: South Korea
  • Previous major wins: None
  • Current score: -4

Im has been at the top end of the leaderboard since first taking to the course at Augusta National this year, leading after day one and tying for second after day two.

Like Scheffler and Smith, the Korean has not won a major yet and also achieved his best finish when he came joint second alongside Smith at the 2020 edition of The Masters.

He has two PGA Tour wins in his career and is looking to become just the second Asian golfer to win the Green Jackets after Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama became the first last year.

Shane Lowry

  • Age: 35
  • Nationality: Ireland
  • Previous major wins: The Open (2019)
  • Current score: -2

Lowry will be a far more familiar name to casual golf fans than the current top three as a previous winner of The Open Championship.

The Irishman won the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush Golf Club in 2019 and has also finished tied for second at the US Open (2016) and tied for fourth at the PGA Championship (2021).

However, his best finish at The Masters before this year was tied for 21st so the European Ryder Cup team member is already having by far his best performance at Augusta National.

Charl Schwartzel

  • Age: 37
  • Nationality: South Africa
  • Previous major wins: The Masters (2011)
  • Current score: -2

‘Once a champion, always a champion’ is a common phrase around August National and those who have won the Green Jacket before will always have a shot of replicating the feat.

Schwartzel became the third ever South Africa golfer to win The Masters in 2011, adding to Trevor Immelman’s 2008 win and the three Green Jackets claimed by the legendary Gary Player.

Now 37, that 2011 success remains the only major win for the Johannesburg native in his decade long run as part of the PGA Tour.
