Whichever way you look at it, Everton Football Club is in a mess. On the pitch, the managerless club lies 19th in the Premier League table and off it, there is uncertainty around Farhad Moshiri’s continued ownership.

Reports said the club’s Iranian-born owner put Everton up for sale on January 24 for $500 million, before he released a statement saying that was not the case.

Confusing right? And of course, Frank Lampard’s dismal time in charge at the Toffees came to an expected end on Monday, January 24.

The fallout of a hectic week at the Merseyside club has created much debate and opinion. And a war of words between boyhood Everton supporter Jamie Carragher and football agent Kai Joorabchian personifies this best.

Mr Joorabchian is a football agent known for his close relationship with Moshiri. He has played a huge hand in high-profile Premier League transfers from Carlos Tevez’ move to Manchester United from West Ham, and Manchester City’s 2008 signing of Robinho.

Although he is described as such, Joorabchian is not a licensed agent, therefore he doesn’t describe himself as one and instead says he plays an ‘advisory’ role with teams.

Carragher accused him of having an 'unhealthy' relationship with Moshiri which has led to an ensuing spat.

He also labelled Everton as “the worst run club in the country” and criticised the turnover rate of managers at the club. In Carragher’s mind, part of the blame here lands at the supposed influence Joorabchian holds at the club.

During an appearance on White and Jordan talkSPORT show, Joorabchian clapped back and said: “When Simon [Jordan] says something I quite respect it, because he’s an educated person, unlike someone like a Jamie Carragher who unfortunately lives in a glass house, spits out of windows and has no education in terms of his background when he makes a comment, like Simon just did."

This was a clear reference to a 2018 incident where Jamie Carragher spat at a young girl in another vehicle through his car window. The incident saw Carragher suspended from his Sky Sports duties for six-months.

But Carragher hasn’t backed down and tweeted in response: "Kia, there is no need to get personal, I’m just analysing your role in football clubs!

"Involved in helping Everton to the bottom of PL.

"Involved at QPR, which ended with relegation.

"Your signings at Arsenal took them to 8th, now they’ve gone, they’re top."

It remains to be seen if Everton can dig themselves out the hole they are in. There are rumours former Leeds United manager Marco Bielsa could take over at the club as they sit two points from safety in the league table.
