And her list of impressive achievements don’t stop there, as, aged 18, Raducanu is the youngest British Grand Slam finalist since Christine Truman reached the French Open final in 1959.

On top of that, Raducanu is also the first British woman to reach a US Open final in 53 years and the first British woman since Virginia Wade in 1977 to reach any Grand Slam final.

Raducanu’s debut Grand Slam final at her first US Open has grabbed the attention of sports fans in the UK where her mother and father will be watching and supporting her on Saturday.

Will Emma Raducanu’s parents be at US Open 2021 final?

Current Covid restrictions mean there will be no late dash to the airport for a flight to New York to watch their daughter in the US Open 2021 final.

Emma Raducanu’s parents will be watching the women’s final on TV from their home in Kent, the young star revealed ahead of her match with Leylah Fernandez.

"It’s not possible [for her parents to travel in time], because you need a waiver and it takes a couple weeks for approval," said Raducanu.

"It’s too late, and they won’t be able to get one."

Who are Emma Raducanu’s parents?

Emma Raducanu’s mother, Renee, and father, Ian, will be cheering on their daughter in the US Open 2021 final from the UK.

Born on 13 November 2002 in Toronto, Canada, Raducanu moved to London aged two with her Chinese mother and Romanian father.

Her parents introduced her to a variety of sports from go-karting and horse riding to swimming and basketball, but her love of tennis was soon clear.

Aged just five, Raducanu joined Bromley Tennis Academy in London where she began to hone her skills on the court.

What was Emma Raducanu’s school?

Emma Raducanu attended girls grammar school Newstead Wood in Orpington, London.

She recently completed her A-Level studies in maths and economics in the months prior to Wimbledon 2021 - her first Grand Slam.

This year’s Wimbledon was the first time Raducanu had been entered into the women’s singles draw and she responded by advancing to the last 16.

She has since worked on her fitness and played on the North America hard courts in preparation for the US Open, which so far looks to have been time well spent.

Has Emma Raducanu played Leylah Fernandez before?

The women’s final of the US Open 2021 will see Emma Raducanu take on fellow teenager Leylah Fernandez, of Canada.

Fernandez, who knocked out defending champion Naomi Osaka, turned 19 during the tournament and handed out cupcakes ahead of her semi final.

"I have known Leylah since we were juniors, in under-12s," said Raducanu. "I played her in Junior Wimbledon."

And, on the pair’s rise from the junior ranks, Raducanu added: "It’s very cool to see just how far we have come."
