Gaelic footballer Caolan Finnegan has died at the age of 20 after battle with brain cancer


Caolan Finnegan’s club Crossmaglen announced the tragic news of his passing on X and said: “Caolan lost his battle earlier this morning. A battle he fought with enormous courage, strength & dignity. We are so proud of you Caolan. You will be forever remembered as one of the greatest who ever donned the black and amber. Rest in peace Stringer. All club activities are suspended.”
Caolan Finnegan’s former college, St Colman’s College also paid tribute to him on X and said: “The Staff, Students and Board of Governors of St Colman’s College are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our esteemed past pupil Caolon Finnegan. Deepest condolences to his family, friends and members of @crossrangers and @Armagh_GAA Community.”

Hide AdIn response to Crossmaglen’s statement, many people took to X to share their own tributes and thoughts. One said: “To leave the mark he did with Crossmaglen at such a young age is a testament to him as a man. Condolences to his family and members of Crossmaglen.”
The BBC reported that “Armagh captain Aidan Forker visited Finnegan along with the Sam Maguire Cup following the county's All-Ireland triumph. Former Celtic manager and Lurgan man Neil Lennon also visited the Crossmaglen man in recent weeks.
“Finnegan scored one of Crossmaglen's goals in their Armagh Final win over Granemore in 2022 and played underage football for his county in addition to being an Ulster Colleges All-Star during his time at St Colman's College, Newry.”
A GoFundMe page had been set up on behalf of Caolan Finnegan, which raised over £300,000. The page was set up by Gareth O'Neill and Golf Tournament Care for Caolan on behalf of Caolan Finnegan.
