Tom Daley will be no doubt spending today celebrating a superb victory for himself and Matty Lee, after the 27-year-old ended his long wait for an Olympic gold medal with a brilliant performance in the Men’s Synchronised 10m platform.

This summer marks Daley’s fourth Olympics and, while he can be pleased with two bronze medals, Daley and Team GB were eagerley waiting for the diver to pick up that much deserved gold. Matty Lee, however, has struck gold at the first time of asking, with the Tokyo Olympics being his first.

The pair’s performance on Monday morning was almost faultless, with China’s Cao Yuan and Chen Aisen unable to keep up with the British duo. The final dive was followed by wild celebrations by the Team GB side, with Daley later weeping with joy on the podium.

It’s a deserved victory for Tom Daley and Team GB, but the 27-year-old will now have to switch his focus to his main event – the Men’s 10m platform. After a disappointing solo showing at the 2016 Olympics, Daley will be keen to redeem himself after such a perfect start to a big summer for him.

When is Tom Daley competing in the Men’s 10m Platform?

Tom Daley’s main event, the individual 10m platform, is the final event of the Tokyo diving programme. The preliminary round will be held on Friday 6 August at 7am (BST), while the semi-final will be a lot more tricky for British supporters to watch at 2am (BST) on Saturday August 7. If Tom Daley is to progress to the Men’s 10m platform final, the event will take place the same day at 7am (BST).

Daley will be joined by fellow Team GB diver, Noah Williams, in the prelims, who is making his Olympic debut at 21 years old.

Daley will be hoping to improve on his performance in the 2016 Olympics, after failing to qualify for the finals with an 18th place finish in the semis. However, there is no doubt that the 27-year-old’s confidence will be sky high after picking up his first gold medal as he heads into his second event at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

Just like in the Men’s Synchronised 10m platform, China will be the country to beat with 2019 world champion Yang Jian and silver medallist Yang Hao waving the flag for their country. Daley will also be up against Russian diver, Aleksander Bondar, who pushed the Brit into second at the most recent European Championships.
