The delayed 2020 summer Olympics are currently taking place in Toyko, with Brisbane also recently named as the host of the summer Games in 2032.
But where will the 2024 summer Olympic and Paralympics take place?
Here’s what you need to know.
Where will the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics be?
The 2024 summer Olympic and Paralympic games will take place in the French capital of Paris
The Olympic Games will take place from 26 July to 11 August, with the Paralympic Games taking place from 28 August to 8 September.
Paris will become the second city to host the Olympics for a third time, having previously done so in 1900 and 1924.
The bidding process began in 2015 and came to a conclusion two years later in 2017, with Hamburg, Rome and Budapest all withdrawing and leaving just Paris and Los Angeles as the two in the running.
Where will the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics take place?
After both Paris and Los Angeles were both left in the running as the host city of the 2024 summer Games, a deal was struck for the 2024 Olympics to take place in Paris and the 2028 Olympics to take place in Los Angeles.
The 2028 summer Games will therefore take place in the US city between 21 July and 6 August.
After London and Paris, Los Angeles will become the third city to host the Olympics three times, having previously done so in 1932 and 1984.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium will be the two main venues for the summer Games in 2028.
Where will the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics take place?
The Australian city of Brisbane has recently been announced as the host of the 2032 summer Games.
Several cities and countries had expressed an interest in hosting the 2032 Games, including Indonesia, China, Doha in Qatar and Budapest in Hungary.
However, the Australian city was named the preferred bidder and its victory looked a certainty after it was unanimously selected as the single candidate for 2032 by the IOC's 15-strong executive board.
The state of Queensland hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and the bid for Brisbane was praised due to its high percentage of already existing venues, its experience in organising major events and its favourable weather.
The city’s plans also made use of 84% existing or temporary venues, with the Gabba cricket ground now set to be rebuilt to become the lead venue.
In 2019, the IOC changed its bidding rules in order to reduce costs and make the process easier for cities.
When and where will next the winter Olympics and Paralympics take place?
The next winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place in Beijing in 2022.
