and live on Freeview channel 276
Team GB secured a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 in the women’s gymnastics team event on Tuesday (27 July) evening.
The medal is the first for Great Britain in the event for 83 years.
The BBC covered the event with a trio of commentators narrating the action, which included Countryfile presenter Matt Baker.
Due to restrictions in place to tackle Covid-19, Matt Baker and the commentary team are not in Tokyo and are broadcasting from Salford, Manchester.
Here’s all you need to know about who commentates on gymnastics for the BBC at Tokyo 2020.
BBC Olympic gymnastics commentators
Matt Baker is the lead commentator for the BBC gymnastics coverage at Tokyo 2020.
Baker is best known for his presenting stints on The One Show, Blue Peter and Countryfile.
However, he is no stranger to the Olympic sport having competed at the junior level in gymnastics as a child.
Speaking to the BBC in 2016, he said: “For me, to be able to express myself through movement was something that [made me think]: I’ve found it, and this is something I want to do for the rest of my life.
“It just clicked with me. It was something that I loved and I didn’t have to think about whether or not I wanted to [do it]. It wasn’t like my parents were pushing me into it.”
The presenter stopped the sport at the age of 14 after beginning to feel increasingly tired. After a visit to the doctor it was revealed he was anaemic.
Baker has been part of the BBC Olympics gymnastics team since Beijing 2008, commentating on every Team GB medal in the event through the last four Olympics.
Alongside Matt Baker providing expert analysis is Christine Still.
Still is a long-time gymnastic coach, and has worked with the BBC several times. She was honoured at the British Gymnastics National Awards in 2019 for her outstanding contribution to the sport.
She originally started her career as a head coach at Loughton Gymnastics Club back in 1972. Now she works as the head coach of the Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club where she has been since 1990.
Still also runs the Elite programme for future Olympians. The programme has seen her coach multiple former Commonwealth, European and Olympic athletes.
She currently coaches GB athlete Alice Kinsella alongside Brett Ince at the Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club. Alice Kinsella qualified for, and is currently competing at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Joining Baker and Still is former Olympic gymnast Craig Heap.
Heap has captained the England team to a gold medal twice in his career.
In 1998, at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Craig became the first person to captain England to team Gold. Four years later in the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, he did it again.
He competed at the Olympic Games at the age of 21, and achieved his personal best performance in the all-around final.
Where is the BBC commentating from?
A large chunk of the BBC presenters during the Tokyo Olympics are reporting and commentating from the broadcaster’s MediaCity base in Salford, Manchester.
Most BBC presenters and commentators are covering the games from the UK due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
This is first time in the long history of coverage of the Games that the commentators are also operating out of BBC Sport’s studios in Salford.
